"Mangalavaaram" is a 2023 Telugu-language psychological mystery thriller directed by Ajay Bhupathi. The film is set in 1996 in the rural village of Mahalakshmipuram, where four strange suicides occur, shocking the villagers. Confessions of illicit affairs between the victims appear mysteriously on walls throughout the town, raising suspicion. Sub-Inspector (SI) Maaya is assigned to investigate the deaths and uncovers that they are, in fact, murders. Her investigation leads her to RMP Viswanatham, a kind-hearted man in the village, who becomes a central figure in the case. Maaya's discovery of him writing one of the confessions sparks a turning point in the investigation.

Viswanatham confesses to Maaya about his connection to Sailaja, a woman he cared for after learning of her tragic circumstances. Sailaja suffered from a hormonal imbalance that caused her to lose control over her sexual desires, making her vulnerable to exploitation by the village men. Her emotional turmoil began when her English lecturer, Madan, took advantage of her affection and abandoned her to marry someone else. Heartbroken and shunned by the village for her relationships with various men, Sailaja became an outcast. Despite the villagers' judgment, Viswanatham saw Sailaja as a victim and took her in, treating her like his own daughter.

However, Sailaja's life took a darker turn when she uncovered an illicit affair between Rajeswari Devi, the wife of the village's powerful Zamindar Prakasam Babu, and a photographer named Vasu. Fearing exposure, Rajeswari, Vasu, and four others conspired to ostracize Sailaja from the village and ultimately murdered her, staging her death as a suicide. This revelation explains the mysterious deaths in the village. The villagers had assumed Sailaja took her own life, but Viswanatham reveals that her death was a planned murder.

Viswanatham and Ravi, Sailaja's childhood friend and secret lover, seek revenge for her death. Ravi, who had staged his own death after killing his abusive father, lives in disguise as a graveyard keeper. Together with Viswanatham, they begin systematically killing the six people responsible for Sailaja's murder, seeking justice for her in their own way. SI Maaya, though initially determined to solve the case, ultimately closes the investigation by labeling the deaths as suicides, choosing to believe that divine intervention was at play, as is believed by the villagers.

The film concludes with a tragic confrontation between Prakasam and his wife, Rajeswari. After learning about her affair and role in Sailaja's murder, Prakasam kills her and stages her death as a self-sacrifice to maintain the village’s honor. In a mid-credits scene, it is revealed that confessions of illicit affairs have begun appearing in other villages, hinting that the cycle of violence and secrecy will continue. Additionally, the ghosts of Sailaja and Ravi are shown haunting the well where they died, setting the stage for a potential sequel.
